We are a team of engineers from different universities who developed a patented controller to improve internal combustion engine performance whilst reducing emission and fuel consumption.

The Problem

In a rapidly evolving automotive landscape, the demand for internal combustion engines persists, driven by factors such as infrastructure limitations and the availability of alternative propulsion systems. Traditional control systems have struggled to keep pace with escalating emission regulations and performance expectations, necessitating a paradigm shift in engine management methodologies.

Key Challenges

  • Emission regulations: Internal combustion engines produce harmful emissions such as NOx, CO2, and soot. Government across the world are encouraging increasingly stricter emission regulations to protect the public health and the environment.
  • Turbocharged Engines: reduce engine sizes and therefore emissions by boosting power density, however they exhibit ‘turbo lag’; negatively impacting throttle responses.
  • Reactive Control Systems: Traditional control systems are reactive and require extensive time and calibration cost to accommodate for the wide range of vehicle use.

By focusing on better emission control, throttle response, and fuel efficiency, we can advance the industry and meet today’s vehicle technology needs.

Our Solution

A Software toolkit ready for the aftermarket or part of your control design arsenal.

Our patented hierarchical economic model predictive controller for engine management is designed to improve engine emissions, fuel economy and driveability by effectively meeting torque requests.

In laboratory testing, our solution has demonstrated remarkable efficacy for diesel engines.

Beyond diesel engines, we believe our solution can extend its benefits to other internal combustion engines. Let us help you find a software solution to deliver the power your customers want whilst meeting future emission regulations.

Our toolkit streamlines the control design process by leveraging data collected from your engine together with your application specific objectives to design a model predictive controller that can be deployed on your electronic control units (ECU).

Key statistics:

POWER: torque + 30.9%

GREEN: -NOx – 9.7%,, soot – 14.9%

ECONOMICAL: fuel -1.2%

FAST: computation time less than 10ms
